Leaves of Change VT is committed to becoming an anti-racist organization in our internal systems and work. In this commitment, we are working to dismantle ways white supremacy is embedded in systems and cultures of our own internal work, as well as in the nonprofits and philanthropy clients we work with.

We acknowledge our shortcomings and are continuously pushing ourselves to do better.

Leaves of Change VT acknowledges that the majority of our operations and work takes place on land stolen from the Wabanaki peoples. This acknowledgment resists the erasure of indigenous histories and ongoing colonization.  We recognize that this acknowledgement is not enough and are working on ways to both internally change and externally inspire actions towards a sustained commitment to land, indigenous rights, and equity.

Sarah Henshaw founded Leaves of Change VT in 2019 after leaving a 20+ year career in international humanitarian assistance and development. She is a connector and collaborator in collective learning and change processes, having worked with nonprofits around the world in different roles – from program manager and director to grant writer and board member.

Sarah’s commitment to local communities was sparked when she began her career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. Since then, she has collaborated with organizations and teams in over 20 countries, seeing the power of people enacting change to build prosperous and inclusive communities and fulfill their dreams. In this work, Sarah has responded to multiple international and domestic disasters, including Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Hurricane Mitch in Nicaragua, Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi, the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, and multiple flooding events in Vermont.
