Sarah and her partner are empty nesters, as her twins embarked on their adult journeys this fall.
Sarah’s commitment to local communities was sparked when she began her career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. Since then, she has collaborated with organizations and teams in over 20 countries, seeing the power of people enacting change to build prosperous and inclusive communities and fulfill their dreams. In this work, Sarah has responded to multiple international and domestic disasters, including Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Hurricane Mitch in Nicaragua, Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi, the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, and multiple flooding events in Vermont. Following the July 2023 flooding in her home county of Lamoille, Sarah joined forces with health and human service leaders to support impacted households, leading to the formation of Vermont’s long-term recovery group Lamoille Area Recovery Network (affectionately known as LeARN).
Sarah also has served on multiple nonprofit boards, including large international and local Vermont ones, and is currently the Board Chair of the Green Mountain Support Services, the co-Vice Chair of the VT Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), and a member of the American Red Cross Northern New England board.
