About Leaves of Change VT

Leaves of Change VT is a woman-owned advisory and consulting collaborative working in partnership with US and international nonprofits. We specialize in partnering with small- and medium-sized nonprofits undergoing growth, change, or reinvigoration. Through our work, we rethink how relationships, skills, and lived experience come together in effective strategic planning, program/project design, fundraising, board development, and collaboration. Leaves of Change VT collaborators mentor and support up-and-coming nonprofit professionals through junior consultancies, internships, and event sponsorships.

~ Collaborators ~

Sarah Henshaw, Founder

Sarah founded Leaves of Change VT in 2019 after leaving a 20+ year career in international humanitarian assistance and development. She is a connector and collaborator in collective learning and change processes, having worked with nonprofits around the world in different roles – from program manager and director to grant writer and board member.

Sarah’s commitment to local communities was sparked when she began her career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. Since then, she has collaborated with organizations and teams in over 20 countries, seeing the power of people enacting change to build prosperous and inclusive communities and fulfill their dreams. In this work, Sarah has responded to multiple international and domestic disasters, including Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Hurricane Mitch in Nicaragua, Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi, the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia, and multiple flooding events in Vermont. Following the July 2023 flooding in her home county of Lamoille, Sarah joined forces with health and human service leaders to support impacted households, leading to the formation of Vermont’s long-term recovery group Lamoille Area Recovery Network (affectionately known as LeARN).

Sarah also has served on multiple nonprofit boards, including large international and local Vermont ones, and is currently the Board Chair of the Green Mountain Support Services, the co-Vice Chair of the VT Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD), and a member of the American Red Cross Northern New England board. She teaches at Michigan State University’s Nonprofit Leadership, Global Cultures, and Social Enterprise Online M.A. and Graduate Certificate Program. Sarah lives and works in beautiful Stowe, VT, where she serves her community and balances being an avid outdoorswoman, mother, and changemaker.
